Some Bad Plays

After hitting two royal flushes last night I was on a poker high so I decided to wait until today to review my play from the session. My biggest losing hand was so horribly played that I can’t believe it myself. I raised in late position with AcTc and one limper called. The flop was 7-high with a pair of 4s. It was bet into me, so I raised to see where I was at. I was then re-raised and this should be an easy fold with my ace-high hand. Nope, I capped it and then went raising again on 4th street. I ended up losing 7 BB on the hand, which is 5 more than I should have.

The second worst losing hand was one in which I flopped middle pair with the nut flush draw. The turn brought me even more outs adding a gut-shot straight draw. Of course none of my outs hit and I had to fold on the river. Next up in losing hands comes my pocket rockets. I put in my usual pre-flop raise and the board brought 9-high. I was bet into, so I raised. The turn was a king and I was bet into again, so I raised and was called. The river was a queen and I decided to just call the bet this time. My opponent turned over pocket queens for a rivered two outer. Ouch!

Other notable hands where I made mistakes were falling in love with big slick and betting my cowboys the whole way with two tens on the flop and another on the river. And finally the hand that takes the cake is my rockets getting beat by J2o. I raised pre-flop and the flop came J-high. It was bet into me, I raised, and then bet the turn. The river was another jack and I made the crying call to see J2o. Gotta love the Party Poker fish.

I did cold call 2 raises. Once with KhQh and the other with pocket 8s. Probably both bad calls. At least when I look at the hands I went to showdown and lost, they were all big hands. Hands that are hard to get away from in the situations they came up in.

It’s the same old mistakes with me. I tend to fall in love with some big cards and bluff off too many bets. I’ve also found out that I tend to go on tilt for a few minutes after lowing two or three big hands. I’m going to concentrate on improving these two things. Another area I need improvement on is keeping my chat mouth shut!

I played 4 tables during the session for a total of 526 hands and ended up 11 BB in the hole. Not too bad considering I made some pretty costly mistakes. It’s hard to come out ahead for a session when AA was 1/3, KK was 0/2, QQ was 1/3, and JJ was 0/1. I also cleared over 300 of the raked hands for my $200 bonus.

I still can’t believe the two royal flushes. I may have reached the pinnacle of my poker life with that.
