I’ve been snooping around the Internet today looking up things about Google and their ranking system. Why? Because the new poker chip tricks site still isn’t anywhere near the first few pages of results when doing a search for “poker chip tricks”. In fact, you don’t get a result for my new site until #261!! Searching on Yahoo! gets a result at #3 and on MSN at #4.
I find this very odd and disturbing for Google, since they’ve been the leader in the search engine department for quite a few years now. It’s the only search engine I use. It’s not like there Internet is lacking in links to this site. Several blogs and forums linked to Poker Chip Tricks in the first few days it was launched. Most of these pages are actually in the first few of pages of results and they have nothing more than a link to the site. They don’t have any of the content.
I understand Google uses the PageRank of sites linking to a page and all that good stuff, but there must be a better system. Why does a ranking for a new site/page jump so easily on Yahoo! and MSN, but take weeks with Google? I guess they must have better ranking algorithms. It’s quite clear that this site should have a very high ranking for the associated search terms. I mean, shit, the domain is made up of the search terms!
Google better get their act in gear or people will start making other sites their primary search engine; me included.
Gaining ground…up to result #234.
