Quads and High Pocket Pairs

Last night I played way too much poker. I sat down at Ultimate Bet because I want to use up the bonuses I have over there. Once I get all of my bonuses, I’ll withdraw the money and put it into Party Poker when they have their next deposit bonus. Have I mentioned that UB’s bonus system sucks?! Playing .50/1 at UB, I get back about $1/hour in bonus. Playing $1/2, it jumps to $3/hour because the pace of play is faster. At Party Poker, I only had to play about an hour or so to get a full $20 bonus!

I started out playing .50/1 last night and stuck to my SSH game plan, except for a few leaks here and there. Lost my fair share. Time for a break. When I signed back on I decided to try the $1/2 table and stick to my strategy. I played for a couple of hours and did well for the cards I was getting. I just couldn’t get a hand, or when I did, someone with 3 outs always hit their flop. I ended up ahead for the session at $1/2 and took a good chunk out of my bonus dollars.

The theme for the night was seeing quads and losing with my high pocket pairs. I managed to get quads twice, but I saw 4 of a kind at least 6 other times throughout the night. It was crazy. I half expected to see someone get a royal flush two hands in a row the way cards were falling. Whenever I looked down to find KK, QQ, or JJ, the flop always seemed to bring an A. My hands were like magnets for those damn Aces! Frustrating, but that’s why we play the game.

After all, poker is one big long session…right?
