Why do people put their email address in an email signature? It doesn’t make any sense, but I keep seeing it over and over again!
I don’t know…maybe I’m just a computer dork and don’t understand. Anytime I receive an email message there is a section right at the top that tells who the sender is. Amazingly, it also gives the sender’s email address. Wow…who would have thought! This is how we can easily hit the reply button and magically respond back to the sender’s message, without having to memorize the address. It’s not because people put their email address in the signature.
Seriously, what do people think they are accomplishing by adding their email address to the signature? Every email program or site I have ever used prints out the To and From information with the message so it’s not like the address will be missing from a printout.
Things to put in your email signature should be things like your name, phone number, job title, address, web site, and maybe a neat quote. Please remove your email address!
